Monday Sep 14, 2020
Monday Sep 14, 2020
Today we discuss another iconic rifle, the SKS. Made in many countries and still in use today, this historic rifle was the precursor to the infamous AK-47. However, being a cousin to the AK-47 doesn't mean that this firearm is illegal in NYS. In fact it is NYS compliant. It is easy to handle and shoot. The vast history makes the SKS a great purchase for any collector of historic firearms
Taylor talks about 2 SKS rifles from his collection, their story as well as his personal connection and story for this incredible firearm.

The heated and emotionally charged protests and riots may seen far removed from most of our everyday lives, however they may soon be coming to a town near you. How will you deal with it? How can you stay as neutral as possible, and how can you stay out of harms way?
Although we fully support the peoples right to protest peacefully, we also recognize that in some parts of the country, isolated pockets of people aim to destroy and injure those who don't agree with their beliefs.

NYGunGuys Ep3 | "Other" Firearms Discussion. |
Monday Aug 24, 2020
Monday Aug 24, 2020
Today we discuss the mythical "other" firearm that many private citizens, as well as FFLs have been selling.
The "other" as it's come to be known doesn't fit into any of the federal definitions of a firearm (pistol, rifle or shotgun), and therefore is simply considered a "firearm" under the law. Federally, these 'other' firearms are 100% legal.
This leaves NYS in yet another grey area of the law.
Listen in and see our take on 'others'!
However, how does this play into NYS and more specifically the NYSafe Act? The NYSafe Act grabs is definition of pistols, rifles and shotguns from the Federal definitions. Since the 'others' are not defined federally this also means they are not defined by NYS PL or the NYSafe Act. As of yet, the NYS Police or political outlet has NOT clarified the legality of 'others' at the state level, despite the fact the several surrounding states have come out with the determination that they are state legal.
Several FFLs have been known to sell 'others'. Private citizens in NYS have also posted on popular sites like Reddit.com showing that they have built 'others'.
Listen in to hear our take on 'others'.

NYGunGuys Ep2 | Bill 7763-A More Senseless gun laws...
Monday Aug 17, 2020
Monday Aug 17, 2020
Show Notes
Today we discuss a piece of NYS gun legislation that is very close to being passed. This bill has already passed the State Senate.
Bill 7763-A poses a ban on private citizens building guns privately for Non-Commercial use (personal use). As most of us know, federally we are allowed to build guns ourselves that do not require serialization or registration. This bill aims to require all privately built guns to not only be serialized, but also be regifted with NY State regardless of federal requirements.
What makes this bill even more frightening is that it now turns anyone who "fits together the parts" of a gun into an "Unlicensed Gunsmith" under the law, a Class C felony.
The Takeaways:
- Anyone who assembles the parts of a firearm is now defined as an unlicensed gunsmith under the law
- Unlicensed gunsmiths are subject to a Class C felony.
- any privately built firearm must be serialized and registered with New York State.
- Only a licensed gunsmith may serialize a firearm
- Only a licensed gunsmith may register a firearm with NY State
